Laing O’Rourke has won the 2016 Australian Construction Achievement Award for its Moorebank Units Relocation (MUR) project.

The project involved relocating several military buildings and facilities.

Laing O’Rourke’s Australia Hub Managing Director Cathal O’Rourke said: “Our innovative approach to project and supply chain management, high-security delivery methods and detailed stakeholder management ensured the successful delivery of this project.

“It was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget for a satisfied client that sees it as a benchmark for delivering all major construction and engineering schemes in the future.

"The sheer scale of the logistics involved in the delivery on a day-to-day basis is hard to compare to any other project delivered in Australia in recent memory and the quality of what we delivered will ensure it is always counted amongst Laing O’Rourke's premiere works, anywhere in the world.”

Commenting on the announcement of the winner, Australian Constructors Association President John Flecker said that the winning project showcased the project management and innovative approach required of construction companies on large complex projects. He added: “The three-year task of demobilising 13 Defence Units and facilities, including the School of Military Engineering and 2,000 Defence personnel from a 190 hectare site at Moorebank, and relocation to new, purpose-built, facilities was a vast scale project.”
