With over 140,000 vehicles utilising the Tappan Zee Bridge in New York, $4 billion renovation works have been in the pipeline for decades, but has seen a fair share of setbacks. Take a look at our top 10 facts regarding the building works.
- Set to complete on time and on budget, the construction has been completed through the use of federal funding
- Spanning over three miles, the vast bridge incorporates eight lanes, four emergency lanes, in addition to cycle and bus areas
- The New York State Thruway Authority is responsible for undertaking the project, alongside consortium Tappan Zee Constructors
- Eight bridge towers, in addition o 90 percent of the bridges’ support structures have now been officially topped off
- Approximately 300,000 cubic yards of concrete has been utilised in the construction, alongside 220 million pounds of steel
