Winvic wins first major hotel project

Winvic Construction has expanded into the multi-room building sector, as it has been awarded its first major hotel job.

The company, based in Northampton UK, has won its first major hotel project. Based in Milton Keynes, the Hotel La Tour will be located on Marlborough Gate in Central Milton Keynes.

Kier, Interserve and Vinci all bid on the hotel, but Winvic surpassed the rival bids in order to secure the £34mn project.

The four-star hotel will host a total of 261 bedrooms and will include a 12,900 sq ft conference room. The site will also have a sky bar and restaurant hosting panoramic views over Campbell Park and beyond.

At 15-storeys high, the hotel is set to become a major staple of the city’s skyline, as it will be the tallest building in Milton Keynes.

Work has already begun on site, with Winvic already installing drainage and reinforced concrete structures. The firm aims to reach the practical construction stage in 2022, following its fit-out of the finest furniture in all bedrooms and the hotel’s other facilities.

The company’s design team, along with pHp Architects, have been working very closely on the 50-metre high building during the pre-construction phase which has been ongoing for a number of months

The firms have been working closely utilising the 3D design capabilities of BIM Level 2. THe structure is set to achieve a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) rating to certify the sustainability of buildings.

It will also be the first building in Milton Keynes to meet the ‘Exceptional Developments’ policy in the city’s alliance plan.

The building will include some bespoke features, including a panoramic lift for those visiting the restaurant, providing unique views of Milton Keynes. Also included in the design is a feature that will mimic the sun setting on the side of the hotel which works by illuminating a 30-metre circular element on the facade.

He then went on to say: “We are looking forward to seeing the mirror-finished Hotel La Tour take shape on Milton Keynes’ skyline through next year ready for a 2022 opening.”
