Keppel Data Centres is scouting for a near to shore location which could be home to a data centre marina in the company’s base of Singapore where land is in short supply.
Keppel’s CEO Wong Wai Meng, told Channel News Asia it was the company’s vision to build several marinas filled with floating data centre modules capable of sharing a floating “power-generation module”. He said Keppel “have a couple of sites we’re exploring around the island for Singapore’s purpose,” with most of them near shore.
A CGI rendition of the proposed marina concept showed a fleet of floating data centre barges including waterborne power sources.
Keppel’s CEO explained that each barge could have 10MW of data centre capacity. In 2018, according to Structure Research) Singapore’s entire data centre capacity was around 360MW, so a floating data centre park could easily double the supply in the market.
