Topcon, a leading provider of machine control - which is the technology that accurately delivers earthworks based on 3D models and machine-mounted GPS systems - announced three new additions to its systems offerings at Bauma earlier this month.

Topcon works with many of the UK and Ireland's leading building contractors to support the delivery of large-scale infrastructure and construction projects. The company's new excavator system, the X-53i LPS, drew in event attendees and represents a broadening of the company's traditional machine control range. It was designed to improve excavation in areas where global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is limited.

Topcon also unveiled the I-53, its latest dozer machine control system, which boasts cutting-edge integrated GNSS receive and dual as well as single axis slope sensor options, allowing complete control of elevation.

The third product to be launched is the GX-55 control box - with which the X-53i and I-53 are compatible - and it boasts a 6.5 inch sunlight-viewable LCD touchscreen. This device gives operators the best possible visual experience in machine control, and when used with SiteLink3D, drivers can instantly share job updates to managers.

David Bennett, Business Manager at Topcon GB & Ireland, said: “Machine control is transforming the way we build. GPS technology helps contractors to refine workflows and minimise the waste that’s generated due to unnecessary mistakes, excess materials or poor communication.

“These new machine control product launches reflect a move towards digitisation within the construction industry, something that we all must embrace if we are to increase productivity and results for the built environment.”
