The cranes are turning once again, as contractors gear up for a post-pandemic boom. With construction project-starts forecast to increase by 17% in 2021, Glenigan has compiled a list of the top 100 to work for in the UK, and here is the top 10.

The King’s Lynn Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Station Project has a capacity of 382MW. EP UK Investments is now proposing to construct and operate a power station of up to 1,700 MW at the site, including the option of a gas-fired peaking plant of up to 299 MW, according to DWD.

Stirling Council has approved plans for a new 3,000 ‘supervillage’ to be built between Plean and Bannockburn by Springfield Properties. Alongside new homes and flats will be a 30-bed care home, business park, 15 shops and other commercial units, concentrated around a pedestrianised civic square.

The Chilterns tunnel is the longest tunnel on the route. The twin-bore tunnel is 10 miles long and will carry passengers under the Chiltern Hills. Two tunnel boring machines, Florence and Cecilia, will be used on this part of the route.

02: HS2 Northolt Tunnels

Northolt tunnel, the second longest tunnel on the Phase One route, will carry passengers from Old Oak Common station 8.4 miles under London to West Ruislip. Four tunnel boring machines will build this section and on completion, they will be extracted at Green Park Way vent shaft.
